NOTES TO CONTRIBUTORS
The Editing Board of „Prace Filologiczne” encourages submissions of papers devoted to linguistics. Please make sure you follow the guidelines specified below while you submit the manuscript.
Only original works, previously unpublished, are eligible, and the manuscripts may be submitted at any time of the year. Positive outcome of the reviewing procedure is required for the text to be published. For principles of reviewing please consult the section “Reviewing Procedure.”
I. Statements of authorship
Due to recommendations of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the Editors of the journal oblige the Authors to fill in a statement of authorship of the submitted texts, as well as to follow the guidelines specified below:
1. The Author is obliged to give information on every person who has contributed to the paper. It is aimed at avoiding the so-called ghostwriting, i.e. not accounting for the participation in the work of a person other than designated as the author. Thus, it is essential to name all the co-authors of the text, together with their affiliation, and overtly state the authorship of concepts, postulations, methods etc. employed in the work. Should a third party or an institution provide any help to the Author, it must be acknowledged in a footnote.
2. Another case of breach of academic integrity is the so-called guest authorship, i.e. designating as authors of the text persons who did not actually contribute to it. The Author should provide information only on such persons who qualify for authorship.
3. If a paper makes part of a research project financed by NCN [National Science Centre], or by any other institution or association, the Author is obliged to account for it in a footnote, and provide the number of the grant.
4. The person submitting the text to be published shall be held responsible for any breach of principles described herein in points 1)-3) above.
II. Stylesheet
The Editing Committee of “Prace Filologiczne” kindly requests the Authors to follow the formatting guidelines specified below:
1. The paper should not exceed 20 pages of a normalized manuscript (A4 format, 30 lines per page, about 60 characters per line, left-hand margin – 3,5 cm, the file should be saved in any of the following formats: .doc, .docx or .rtf).
2. Font: Times New Roman, 12, line spacing – 1,5, the whole text except for the heading should be left- and right-justified. In the case when symbols (e.g. phonetic symbols or non-Latin fonts) were used in the contribution, please send the symbols separately or attach a PDF version of the paper.
3. Please include the keywords (up to 5 words) in Polish and in English. Those should be placed at the beginning of the paper (after the heading) with a smaller font-size (Times New Roman, 10). Make sure the keywords do not duplicate the paper's title.
4. Please attach a short summary (up to 10 lines, placed at the end of the paper) in Polish and in English, together with the English version of the paper’s title. Make sure the English keywords do not duplicate the paper's title.
5. At the beginning of the paper, in the left-hand top corner please place your name and surname in small capitals, and in the following two lines (normal font type, Times New Roman, 12)– your affiliation (first the basic internal unit, only then the institution’s full name) and town, as well as your e-mail address and telephone number. By submitting the text, you consent to the data being made public.
6. Please include the date of submitting the text at the end of the paper.
7. The heading should be written in small capitals (Times New Roman, 14) and centered, section headings should start flush left , with bold type (Times New Roman, 12).
8. Double quotation marks should be used for titles of journals.
9. All words, phrases and utterances discussed, as well as titles of papers, books and its parts (chapters) or foreign language phrases appearing in the text should be italicized.
10. Please use double quotation marks for short quotes, and for block quotations – Times New Roman font, 11, line spacing – 1.
11. Foreign language quotations must be translated into Polish. Please place the translation in a footnote.
12. For meanings of words and phrases use single quotation marks: ‘ ’.
13. We recommend two types of references:
a. for bibliography – placed in round brackets along the model: author’s surname, year of publication of the work, page number after a colon., e.g. (Strawson 1967, s. 37),
b. for polemics or explanations – footnotes.
14. References should be given in their original form (not transcribed).
15. Please use the APA (American Psychological Association) stylesheet for references along the following model:

16. Ranges (e.g. of pages, years) ought to be provided along the model: 75-90 (no spacing, hyphen), consistently throughout the text and references.
17. References to articles in journals or in joint publications should contain the numbers of the first and the last page.
18. When referring to publications with two authors (editors), both names must be mentioned (e.g. Awdiejew i Habrajska 2006); for publications with three or more authors the abbreviation “i in.” (“et al.”) should be used (e.g. Dubisz i in. 1991).
19. Please use the following abbreviations while referring to Polish dictionaries:

20. Please do not list these works in the „Abbreviations” section. The section „Abbreviations” should be placed before the „References,” and should contain abbreviations for other dictionaries cited in the article, as well as any other abbreviations used in the paper.

22. All Authors are kindly requested to provide a separate page (attached to the article) with information on: their academic title/degree, name and address of the academic institution, home address, phone number, and e-mail address.
23. Please attach a separate page with a short biographical entry, including information on the Author’s academic title/degree, academic rank, and areas of scientific interest.
24. Should you employ any photos in your article, you are requested to send in by e-mail in a separate file (.jpg, .tif, .bmp format, resolution at least 300 dpi). Please indicate the source (the author) of the photo or any other materials that you use.
25. Please bear in mind that only texts that follow all the guidelines specified above shall undergo the reviewing and publishing procedure.
26. For proofs, a PDF file will be supplied, and a PDF editor should be used in order to introduce any corrections (e.g. Adobe Reader X or later versions).
