„Prace Filologiczne” [Philological Studies], founded in 1884 by Antoni Adam Kryński, is the oldest philological journal in Poland. It was issued incessantly up till the outbreak of WW II (the last prewar volume 17th was published in 1937). In 1963, when the publication of the journal was resumed, „Prace Filologiczne” became linguistically oriented. It has published papers on Polish, Slavonic and general linguistics, the authors of which were associated with various academic centers, both in Poland and abroad, i.a. Germany, Ukraine, Lithuania, Russia, Bulgaria, France, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Byelorussia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Croatia.

 

On the whole, more than 2000 papers have appeared in the journal: disserations and articles on linguistics (seldom on literature), editions of the oldest written texts in Polish, bibliographical outlines, reviews, minor texts etc. In “Prace Filologiczne” have heretofore published over 1000 authors, many of whom are of international renown. Since 2008 the journal has had two independent series (the linguistic one and the literary one).
